Good morning dear marlyn

It sounds like you and I have an awful lot in common... I love the newfoundlander also.. what a heck of a breed! I had always thought that that breed might have done this breed good! but i did not want all that hair, so i figured the mastiff the best to put into the breed to give it that large gentlness.

i have nothing bad to say about the newfs. what a heck of a dog that breed is! I just hope that akc and the "show for beauty" doesnt ruin the breed. are you active in the breed club. that is the place to keep a breed great. do you show?

and shilo's, i could talk for ages on them also... i love big dogs... we need a shirt with that on it... ha ha

When i had the thoughts of breeding a dog that the people wanted, (i was a dog (people) trainer for a long time.) and if you are a dog trainer you are one on one with the american public, and you know what they are looking for.

that is what made me start breeding this breed. I knew what they wanted and there just wasnt a breed out there for them. so many breeds are too hyper. of cource, they are animals.... ha ha..

but if i could just get that smart, laid back, intellegent and easy to train , non barking, non digging dog. then i would have the best breed in america. logical right? well, if we can get to the moon why couldnt someone make this dog?

I love an intellegent dog. and with over 30 years of working with all breeds, the german shepherd had everything and balls. but... no one in a normal everyday household with kids had time for this breeds energy. you can not believe how many shepherd owners gave me thier dogs and pleaded with me to get one of mine. then they just raved over them!

it made me happy to know that i was on the right track.

i guess a lot of folks have the same idea as me, but it takes everything one has to breed like i have.

most folks do not know how many dogs i had to go through. i had to find homes for the older dogs constantly, still need to. if you think about it you can understand why. I only wanted one litter and the best pup out of that litter. if the pup was exceptional i would need to keep two pups. i also needed to find good folks who would co own and who understood how important it was for me to bred back to that co owned dog.

some times things would happen and i would loose many generations because of some jerk who stole one of my dogs.

many of my dogs cost me 600.00 and up. the most i paid for a dog was 1200.00. used it one time in breeding, showed it a few times then sold it or gave it away when i got a litter out of it. so you see it cost a lot of money.

the big thing was not to tell the world until the genetic soundness of the dogs was set.

lots of people want to tell everybody too early.

i do believe i am too early, but i figure it will take a while still, so i may not be too early after all. what i mean is other folks getting your dogs and breeding when the genes are not set.

if folks breed your new breed and do it wrong. all of those painful years of breeding is lost. if one family gets a bad dog the reputation is shot.

there is much more than meets the eyes of the everyday person

so i tell you this because you seem to have some understanding.

not many folks can look into it as i have tried to discribe to you. most folks only see the surface.

i have so much to talk to you about.

want to discuss the shilo?

how is your shilo? you know that i wrote about the shilo in my book. did you get my book? you should at least download it. only cost about 5.00 to download and you get the original pictures in color. (in the book the pics are blk/wht.) cost me a lot to write that book too.

I have a library full of pics and records. i am now (trying) to put it all in the computer and then to disks. then i will package the original papers in boxes and protect them as best i can and store them. my original writtings and discriptions of each individual dog. extensive.

i remember when the first shilo's came out. It sparked my interest. at first I began to see a very large long haired german shepherd with akc papers emerging from the center of the u.s. i paid attention. i watched.. then i read about the shilo's. I knew where they came from. i was paying attention.

my sister has been into german shepherds since about 12 years old. (1968) she was into it big time. she started showing and then breeding. she took ag classes and then went into herding. then she changed dog breeds and left akc. guess she had enough of them.

my other sister is really good at keeping up appearances and playing the games with the rules and getting in on the top and changing the rules if she thinks it should be. she has it together i guess. so she is now an akc judge. she loves the big dogs also. she is pretty intellegent on her breed. started the wolf hound gazette or something. writes in it. she also does search and rescue with her hound. her life is the hound club and her dogs. she only has one now.

I am sure you would love this breed. everyone does. we are still small. I do not breed a lot. too many rules and laws prevent citizens to breed and big brother is watching and has his hand over you. this may be the last real breed to ever be created. the way things are it is so hard to breed any more.

do you know how the old ways of breeding were? do you understand how the new ways of breeding are hurting breeds?

where did you get your shilo? are you breeding him/her? what lines does she/he have?

My sister was the creator of a dog called boogie down. a magnificant german shepherd dog. a nice large gray dog. I saw him and didnt know how she had gotten such a fine animal. why the heck did she sell him? beats me. but that dog is the foundation of the shilo stock. then i heard that the owner (accidently) killed him and continued using his pedigree in breedings. oh well.

the shilos are doing well? i think they are akc now? I should check up on them again. the only reason i wouldnt go shilo is thier bone structure is the same as the shepherd and thier drives are the same. they are the same to me, only hairier. i do not mind. i think it is ok to create a new breed, but not to lie about it. I know the american public wanted a long haired shepherd, but i didnt, so i didnt breed it. someone did and they bred it.

someone may want a curly coated german shepherd and it can be done and be an akc dog. know why?

if you have the gene curly coat in your german shepherd and you purchase all german shepherds who pocess this and continue to breed curly coated shepherds you will get curly coats. now, all these dogs are akc registered but do not make it in the show ring. so you just addvertize akc curly coated shepherds. heck, you can do it with a miniature german shepherd dog also.. obtain all akc german shepherds who are small and breed only smalll and you will have akc miniature german shepherds.

easy..

I didnt want a working german shepherd.

there are many different ways to breed new dogs. but i was interested in the character of a breed of dog that would be what the public wanted. that was difficult. to breed a non working companion dog out of working stock.

bet your dogs are beautiful.

did i send you any pictures? i think i did right?

maybe one day you can come out to visit us. you are welcome to.

well, got to run... talk to you soon...

got to feed the dogs.. haha

Lois,
I tried to get to those groups, but still very slow. when I say slow, I mean I walked away and came back 5 minutes later and still loading. It is probably because AOL, is my server and I don't have a modem or DSL.
I would love to know more about these guys. I find them very interesting.
This is my 2nd Shiloh I had one before they had the name. Very smart breed. She has her CGC and her TDI and she isn't even 2 yet. I loved doing the Therapy with her. That is why I am so interested in your breed. I would love to talk more about your guys, that is why I gave you my AOL address,
Yahoo has a lot of Shiloh Sites, but Google is great. It just takes so long, and I hav no idea why.
I will try again, but if you don't see me on your group, it is only because I have so much trouble.

sorry about that marilyn, yeah, those groups are hard to navigate and take so very long!! yeaaaaa...

fortunatly i get direct mail from there ha ha...

so marilyn, whats on your mind dear?

how is your dog? didnt you say you have a shilo? I have been doing research on that breed of late.

last time i looked up the shilo's was back in 1987 or so... bought when i started breeding the german shepherds with malamutes.

that was a long time ago and it seems that the shilo's are all over the place now, going strong.... breeding a lot... holding shows.... getting ready to go akc?

we do not want any such recognition. My plan is to take this slow and methodical.

it seems tina the founder is upset about the breeding of her shilo's?

in my opinion she should have made some rules back then so that the breeding program was stricter... hmmm.

there are no clubs out where you live. there are no alsatian shepalutes out there either.

when i started breeding i wanted full control and i wanted to wait until i had the breed set. I have bred these dogs into a tight formation of genetical substance and nothing short of breeding to a german shepherd will get them out of who they are.

they are not as big" as those giant shilo shepherds. as a matter of fact i do have a comparison that i wrote up that will be going into our next alsatian shepalute quarterly magazine. which isnt a magazine yet, it is just over the internet. cost less that way.

there are about 300 owners of these dogs but all of them but one have gotten thier dogs for pets. these are not german shepherds. these are not a working dog. these dogs were bred soely for companion animals. no hyper activity , no consistant barking. they only bark when something out of the ordinary happens. then they stop barking. they have a deep bark not a whynn or a high pitch yeip.

they have round feet, not oval. they have round bones, not oval. they have shorter tails and some curl and they all raise up over the back when challenged or assuming dominance. they do not have a high step or reach. they have a shorter stryd. they are larger in girth than most of the shilos i have seen. they have larger heads and the ears come off the sides of thier head not off the top. their ears are short and triangular.

that is just a little bit of the comparison. the shilo is a shepherd. the alsatian shepalute is not. though many confuse them to be. they do not act like a shilo or a g.s.d. they do not act like a mastiff or a mal. they act like the best of the combination of the three.

I have hand selected over 18 generations picking only non barkers, non whynners, non hyper, non shy dogs. then i rebred into each other and set the genetic code strong. i bred brother to sister, cousin to cousin, mother to father and grandfather. then i outcrossed and am now rebreding that outcross back into my lines, if the out cross pups work out as i exspect they will.

I am very sorry that you can not see one. nope, the closest one to you would be up in hells canyon oregon joseph county. she is the only other breeder also.

breeding these dogs is complicated and puppies must pass a birth test, a 8 wk test and a 6 month testing so that no hyperness, barkers, or shy dogs inter the breeding pool.

those characteristics are dominant. way dominant and will take forever to keep out of our breed. some pet quality pups may pocess such but it will not be much.

many owners do not hear thier dogs bark until a year old. some get concerned that thier dog may be deaf and can not bark. thats crazy.... they do and they will they just dont have anything to bark at yet. ha ha...

some pups have been a bit shy but age and training always bring them out.

those are pet quality dogs and are not used as breeders.

If i have left anything out or you want toknow more i will be glad to email you.

we are in the process of revising our national bylaws. if youd like to know more about that you need to go to the web site.

i have tried to go over all the links to make sure they are all up and going.

i have inclosed those links after my name...

hope you can get to them.

If there is anything i can do for you please, love to talk dogs... anytime...
